Spur Gear - Everything About It

Due to the need for industrial gear, gear manufacturers are making many unique gears of diverse sizes and weights. There are different types of gears which are used in different places. The most common type of gears includes the custom gears Cleveland, worm gears and reverse engineering gears as well as the spur and helical gears. However, this writing will concentrate on elaborating the spur gear as it is one of the unique gears available out there.Spur gears are easily noticeable by its straight teeth and mounted side by side on the axis of rotation.

The Work of Spur Gears

These gears can be mounted easily when placed close to each other. However, the gear must be connected in such position that the gear wheels are on the same line. Now when the primary gear is rotated, the teeth which are on the main gear pushes the connecting teeth forward. As both gears are corresponding each other, they will make the sequential gear to turn and take turns in the opposite direction. If the connection of the teeth is not disrupted, the gear will be in motion as the wheels move.

Where Spur Gears are Used

Spur gears can be used to increase and decrease the turning force in washing machines, clothes dryers and mixers.Since they can increase and reduce the speed, they are put in mechanical clocks and egg beaters. In addition to that, they are incorporated in air crafts engines.

Advantages of Spur Gears

They are built in an artless way because the teeth are on a straight line.In addition to that, they do not consume too much time when they are being manufactured and they do not break easily. The efficiency of the spur gear is more and it can be calculated by dividing the output power of its shafts by the input power of the shaft multiplied by 100.As they are easily constructed, they are made available at reasonable price.

Types of Spur Gears

There are two kinds of spur gears. The internal gear is the first type of spur gear which is more or less similar to the ordinary spur gear but their teeth face inwards. The other name for internal gear is ring gear. The second type of spur gear is known as the external spur gear. Unlike the internal spur gears, external gears' teeth are placed on the outside surface of the wheel.

Since the operations are simple, spur gears can be used in industrial and non-industrial sectors. But mostly spur gears are mainly used in industries due to their high performance and efficiency that meet the requirement of the people.
